We can all fall off track from time to time in pursuing our goals. We are human:) Maybe the new budget you created hasn’t stuck yet, or you haven’t started exercising like you planned, or begun that job search you were so intent on doing. When this happens, we can feel frustrated and defeated. Don’t throw in the towel!
I don’t want you to get derailed and lose sight of your important goals, so here are three effective steps to manage the “off-track” negative emotion to get back to taking action:
1. Acknowledge that you’re off track.Feel IT, and the not so pretty emotion that’s going along with it. Hint: Don’t let it linger, simply realize that it happened or is happening.
2. Do something you love to do. This doesn’t have to be connected to your goal. In fact, it’s better if it doesn’t! It has everything to do with shifting your mindset from negative to positive. So go for a walk, listen to music, call a friend…whatever makes you feel good.
3. Re-evaluate. Now that you’re in a positive frame of mind, go back to what’s inspiring you to reach your goal. What gets you super excited about the goal you WILL reach in 2021? Whatever it is – capture that positive feeling again.
Congratulations! You just made the shift and are back on track to reach your goal. Repeat when necessary. Our minds are powerful tools. You have the power to change how you feel and respond.
